R-410A is currently the leading non-ozone depleting replacement for HCFC-22 in unitized air conditioning systems for residential and light commercial units. These units are refrigerant-in-tube design, meaning these units contain no vessels such as liquid receivers, condenser barrels or chiller barrels. These components typically have test pressure ratings of 350 to 400 PSI.
R-410A has a significantly higher vapor pressure than R-22. The condensing pressure of R-410A at standard conditions is 336 PSI. This is slightly higher than our current high-pressure safety shut-off setting. An equivalent high pressure cut off for R-410A would be 553 PSI. This pressure far exceeds the pressure ratings of the components previously referenced.
Contractors and technicians need to know that R-410A can only be used in equipment designed for R-410A. It cannot be used to retrofit existing R-22 equipment due to significantly high operating pressures. Furthermore, special service equipment is required, such as a high pressure manifold gauge set, a high-pressure recovery unit, and high pressure recovery tanks. 6
is script determines the gas pressure based on temperature of R410a refrigerant. R410A is an HFC refrigerant, invented by Honeywell, that has been developed to replace the HCFC refrigerant R22. Systems operating on R410A run at a pressure of about 1.6 times that of similar systems operating on R22. Energy efficiency is comparable to R22. Although R410A is a zeotropic refrigerant, the whole refrigerant behaves almost as if it was an azeotrope. This is because there are only two refrigerants in the mixture and these two refrigerants have very close boiling points at constant pressure. R410A is a 50:50 mixture by weight of R32 and R125. Temperature glide is very small (less than 0.17K). It is the "ozone layer friendly" application replacement for R22 and is used in a variety of air conditioning and refrigeration applications in a variety of markets, including appliance, construction, food processing, and supermarkets. Production of R22 in the United States is scheduled for phased termination, beginning in 1995. In 2015, production is planned to be no more than 10% of the manufactured amount in 1994; termination of production worldwide by 2030. Enter the temperature in either F or C degrees and the returned result is the alternate temperature and determined pressure in Barg and psig. Barg is the gauge read pressure. The term gauge signifies that the pressure has been read from a gauge that actually measures the difference between the pressure of the fluid or gas and the pressure of the atmosphere. Psig is equal to psis at sea level (14.7 psi). Psig is equal to psia – 14.7 at sea level. Psia is absolute pressure, which means it is gauge pressure + 14.7 psi. Now that I have indicated that, it relieves a lot of pressure...
